Orbsen members attend the Choral Society Reunion

Many members of Orbsen performed at the Galway University Choral reunion on Saturday 29th of September. The event was organised by the Alumni office and was to honour Mr John Murphy, who conducted the choir from 1967.

Some members travelled great distances to sing with us, Dublin, Meath, Wales, USA etc!

Here's a photo of the group rehearsing on Saturday afternoon.

On the night we perfromed Arabella and Coney Island Babe from the guys barbershop repetoire. This was followed in quick succession by O Si Funi Mungu and then a most brilliant fusion on Siuil a ruin and a traditional Welsh song. We debuted our version of Rehab and followed this with an excellent rendition of Mary McAuliffe's Ever Free. To finish we 'performed' the Wolf Chant - a piece the audience found very entertaining!

The group enjoyed the weekend and meeting with all the members from bygone eras as well as those we sang with during our time in the University Choir.

Roll on the next reunion......................................

Orbsen perfrom an all Latin Mass!

Orbsen pefromed an all Latin mass in the University Chapel on Thursday 27th of September. the event was a memorial service for John Moriarity who passed away earlier this year. John was a well known and highly respected writer and on the 23 June 2006 John was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Literature, Honoris Causa by NUIG.

The service, which was attended by many of the University staff including University president, Iggy Ó Muircheartaigh, included many readings from the writer.

Orbsen perfomed an opening Kyrie followed by Psalm XXIV, then a setting of the Sanctus. During the communion we performed a Benedictus and we wrapped up proceedings with a particularly good setting of the Salve Regina.

It was the first time the group perfomed an all-Latin mass.
